Phoenix Coyotes Highlights
Kings take 3-0 lead in Western Conference Finals
The Los Angeles Kings are now just one win away from from taking the Western Conference Finals and the chance to fight for the Stanley Cup after beating the Phoenix Coyotes 2-1 on Thursday night.
Los Angeles faced its first serious challenge in so many weeks when Daymond Langkow scored on a breakaway in the second period to score the first lead of Phoenix in the series.
But the Kings stood their ground.
2.07 minutes later, Anze Kopitar tied the game with a breakaway goal and Dwight King hit the winning goal early into the third period to take the Kings nearer their first Stanley Cup final in 19 years.
Jonathan Quick made 18 saves in the game to improve their run to 11-1 in the postseason that they entered as dark horse.
Meanwhile, Mike Smith played a good night with 26 saves for the Coyotes but failed to block the winning shot of King in the third period.
The Phoenix Coyotes now have to win four straight to have a shot at the Stanley Cup.
Coyotes win against Blackhawks in OT
In a wild and physical Western Conference playoff series, the Phoenix Coyotes prevailed against the Chicago Blackhawks in overtime 3-2 on a goal by Mikkel Boedker to take the lead 2-1.
Taking assists from Taylor Pyatt and Rostislav Klesla, Boedker scored from the left of the net as the two teams played their third straight overtime game. The Coyotes missed the services of their regular season top scorer Marian Hossa who was taken out on a stretcher after a hard hit by Raffi Torres in the first period.
Mike Smith made 35 saves, six of them in overtime, to help the Coyotes earn the win. Andrew Brunette and Michael Frolik scored for the Blackhawks while Rostislav Klesla and Ray Whitney scored for the Coyotes in regulation.
Hossa, the scoring leader for the Blackhawks, was released from the hospital shortly after and was expected to recover but no timetable has been set for his return to the ice.
The Phoenix Coyotes is the newest and youngest team in the Pacific Division under NHL’s Western Conference. Inaugurated in 2002, the team makes its home in Glendale, Arizona at the Jobing.com Arena.
Who are the chief rivals for the Phoenix Coyotes? Inside the division it would probably be the Anaheim Ducks, given their close proximity to the Phoenix Coyotes. The Sharks are also another big rival. Outside the division, the games against the Detroit Red Wings are always a hotly contested affair. Find cheap tickets to all these games here.
